Stone Town is the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar. The Town plan remained intact and is most likely the finest e.g. Merchant Swahili Settlement in East Africa. Most of the buildings were built in the 19th Century when Zanzibar was under the influence of Oman Empire. The buildings are typically colonial.
